Year 1

Victorian Day

On Monday 18th June, West Oxford travelled back in time to the Victorian Times. The children enjoyed dressing up as Victorian children and taking part in traditional Victorian school activities. William Morris art work, Victorian handwriting and PE drills were some of the activities put on by teachers throughout the day.

Fire safety

Year 1 and 2  recently had a visit from the local fire brigade. They found out lots about fire safety and also had the chance to explore the fire engine. They were even allowed to spray water from the hose!

Paddington 2

Year 1 trip to Hill End – Jul 17

Year 1 had a fantastic day at Hill End. They made dens in the forest, toasted marshmallows round the camp fire, looked for butterflies and other mini beasts in the meadow, explored the cottage in the woods and took part in some tricky team challenges.  It was a lovely way to end the year!

During Arts Week Year 1 visited the Ashmolean museum to explore some Indian artefacts. They enjoyed listening to and acting out stories from Hindu mythology.

Science Week in Year 1 March 2017

Class 1 had a fantastic time during science week. As well as planning and carrying out their own investigations about materials, they enjoyed a ‘Bright Sparks’ workshop finding out all about optical illusions. They also had an amazing time holding snakes and other reptiles  when Andy’s Animals came in to school.
