Year 6 SATS information

Here is the information shared at the SATs information evening on Tuesday 19th January. If you were unable to make the meeting and want to discuss anything more please see Mr Smith. Standard Assessment Tests 2016 The SATs tests are an important part of the end of Primary School and are statutory. These tests are brand new this year and will reflect the new national curriculum, which was introduced to Year 1, 3, 4 and 5 in September 2014. They are intended to be more rigorous and there will also be a completely new marking scheme as the existing national curriculum levels have been replaced. At the end of Year 6, children will sit tests in:

  • Reading
  • Maths
  • Spelling, punctuation and grammar

These tests will be both set and marked externally, and the results will be used to measure your child’s progress and the school’s performance. Your child’s marks will be used in conjunction with teacher assessment to give a broader picture of their attainment. PDF version of the Powerpoint shared at the meeting:

Here is the link to the new sample tests for the brand new tests that will be taken by Year 6 – Week beginning May 9th 2016. (Please do not complete these with your child at home) Sample Papers 2016 Here is the link to the interim framework that Mr Smith will be using to assess your child for this year for their teaching assessment score.
Children will receive a Study book on loan to support them with revision. Here is a link to other guides that you could purchase. If lots of parents would like addition resources, we could purchase through school to get a discount. There are a number of ways in which you can help your child, in order to both achieve their best and feel confident as we get closer to SATs:

  • Please continue reading with your child everyday; reading and understanding the questions is key for these tests and for life!
  • Quick mental maths at home, especially of the times tables, is very important. All of the children sitting the papers should know each times table up to 12 by Year 6.
  • Encourage them to complete their homework regularly and hand it in on time.

We will update the page with other websites and apps that could help with revision. Maths Revision- Woodlands Junior English- Revision Woodlands Junior
