West Oxford Community Primary SchoolWelcome to Year 1
Year 1 is an exciting year for our children as they move up to “big school” from Reception, and start to deepen their learning and experience. Led by Ms Liz Newman & Mrs Debra Livesey, the Year 1 team have created a fun and nurturing environment in their welcoming classroom.
About Year 1
One of the many reasons that year 1 is such a pleasure to teach is that this is the year they really start exploring the world around them and actively seeking out the books and topics that interest them the most. The relationships and friendships that they form this year often carry on throughout the rest of primary school.
This year we build on the phonics foundation the children received in Reception, and start reading more complex and involved sentences and books, and we enjoy exploring themes and relationships in our reading.
Maths starts picking up too, as we come up with new and exciting ways to think about numbers, learning to count to 100 and using multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

What Books Will Your Child Enjoy in Year 1?
