West Oxford Community Primary SchoolWelcome to Year 5
In Year 5, we take a giant leap into the many subjects we will be working on and discover and build new skills as we investigate and explore. It is an exciting time when the children really start to develop their own style in their work and their own voice.
About Year 5
Year 5 is an exciting time in children’s learning. Up to this point, they have been learning new skills and then trying them out on their own.
In Year 5, they will learn new skills but they will also take their previous learning and push to deepen their understanding and expand on what they already know. It is a time when they develop their own voice in their writing, formulate their own opinions in class discussions and look at things in a variety of ways.
It becomes very important for the children to read as much as they can, a variety of genres and authors. This will help to give the children ideas for writing and exposure to different ways of seeing things and expressing their ideas. Most importantly though, it is important for the children to have a growth-mindset and knowing that anything is possible.
